God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will…make a way to escape. I Corinthians 10:13
An old preacher who loved God said, “If God tells me to jump through the wall, I jump. That’s my business. It’s His business to make the hole in the wall for me to jump through.”
That’s how it is with temptation. Temptation to sin is strong, but we never have to give in to it. In fact, God has told us to resist the devil (James 4:7). To resist, or turn our back on the devil and refuse his enticements, is our business. It’s God’s business to give us a way in which we can resist.
When I am tempted, I think of I Corinthians 10:13 and say to myself, “Oral Roberts, the God you serve is faithful. He is not going to let you be tempted beyond your ability. He’s going to make a path through the mountain, an oasis in the desert, a way of escape in every temptation.” And He does just that. God reminds me of a promise in His Word or He sends someone to encourage me. He helps me not to sin.
God won’t permit you to be tempted with something that you don’t have the inner spiritual strength to stand against. He will make an escape route for you. Look for it. It will be there. You can take that route and bear the temptation. You can overcome it!
