That God may be everything to everyone. – I Corinthians 15:28 (RSV)
In his book, The Glory of it All, John H. Vruwink, an Episcopal rector now retired, tells this delightful story:
“During World War II, a little boy was hurried away from London when the bombing began and sequestered with an aunt and uncle in the countryside. He was separated from his mother (she was a nurse) and from his father (he was flying fighter planes in the Royal Navy). The boy was heard to pray, as he knelt beside his bed, ‘God bless and keep my father and my mother, all my aunts, uncles and grandparents. And please God, take care of yourself, for without You we are all sunk. Amen.’”
To depend upon God, who is the Source of our total supply is not a sign of weakness as some think. It is the submission of our total being to the Most High God, who has told us to lean on Him for He can do for us what we can’t do for ourselves. Within ourselves we can do nothing, but with Him we can do everything (Philippians 4:13).
