When Tough Times Come, Bless the Lord!

Lindsay Roberts

Have you ever had one of those days when everything that could possibly go wrong goes wrong? It’s easy to get frustrated and exhausted with everything and everybody, but it’s those types of days that we especially need to bless the Lord!

I believe with all of my heart that the Lord sits in heaven on those days and watches me, saying, “Is she going to bless Me so I can bless her, or is she going to lose it? Is she going to give this one over to Me, or is she going to give in to the devil’s plan?” It’s easy to bless the Lord when everything is going right, but it’s not so easy when everything is going wrong.

As we begin to bless the Lord, I believe He begins to reward us. Hebrews 11:6 says that God is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. That means seeking the Lord in the tough times, the good times, the up times, the down times, the hard times and the not-so-hard times. When we give God our mouths (and that can be a hard thing to do!) in praise, I believe it sets forth a chain of events to bring God’s blessings to us. When we bless God, He blesses us.

Maybe something has gone wrong at your job, or maybe you’ve gotten a bad diagnosis from your doctor. Begin to bless the Lord. Psalm 103:1 says, Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name. Why should we bless the Lord? Because He forgives our iniquities, He heals our diseases, He redeems our life from destruction, and He crowns us with loving-kindness and tender mercies (vv. 3,4).

Frustration and exhaustion can give you worry wrinkles and age lines, but blessing the Lord will bring joy into your life!
