Truth Is Your Fortress

From the archives of Oral Roberts

A little girl continually told lies, and scolding her had not cured her of the habit. Finally, in desperation, her mother told her, “People who tell lies won’t go to heaven.” The little girl thought for a moment, then looked at her mother and said, “It must be awfully lonesome in heaven with nobody there but God and George Washington.”

The child had no doubt heard the story that George Washington never told a lie. But we know that’s all it is — a story. However, one thing we can be sure of is that God never lies. God is truth, and lying is against His nature. Hebrews 6:18 TLB assures us that it is impossible for God to tell a lie. In contrast to God’s nature, satan’s nature is the exact opposite. Jesus was speaking about satan when He said to John in 8:44 NRS, “There is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks according to his own natures, for he is a liar and the father of lies.” It is satan’s intent to spread lies and to destroy good.

People who lack a sense of security often lie to cover up, and they are eventually hurt or destroyed by their lies. Jesus said, I am the way, THE TRUTH, and the life (John 14:6).

Truth is powerful.

Truth is your fortress.

Truth is your protection.

Truth is your security.

If you abide in the Truth, you don’t have to fear what people say. When you know the truth, that Truth shall make you free (John 8:32).
