The Very Best Place to Be

Lindsay Roberts

When we feel that God is calling us to do something, sometimes it is difficult because it may be contrary to what our human nature wants us to do. And yet, at the same time, being in the will of God is the place of greatest fulfillment, protection, safety, and satisfaction in life. That’s why it’s so important that we discern God’s will.

For example, when Richard conducts a crusade overseas my flesh fights against it. His trips to countries that are not safe, his absence from home, and the long hours he puts in are unpleasant. Even as devout Christians, it’s a sacrifice for our entire family. Yet we know that the very best place for Richard is in the will of God. The very best place for his wife to have her husband is in the will of God. And the very best place for our children to have their father is in the center of God’s will.

Answering God’s call to go to dangerous countries can be hard because some people understand and some don’t. “You have a wife and kids,” they say. “Isn’t that being irresponsible for you to go?” But what is more important ― our comfort, our reputation, or the Father’s approval?

The truth of the matter is that when you’re in the center of God’s will, you have a peace which surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7 NKJV). As you step out in obedience to God and see Him prove Himself faithful, you grow and you learn. It’s rewarding, and that makes life exciting. What really matters is that at the end of the day, the Father will say, “Well done, my good and faithful servant” (Matthew 25:21 NLT).
