The Spirit of a Finisher

Richard Roberts

As you look through the Bible, you will notice the spirit of a finisher throughout. God is a finisher. What He begins, He intends to finish, including what He has begun in your life.

What do I mean by “finish”? Well, do you have a dream that God has put in your heart, but you wonder if it will ever come to pass? Perhaps something has caused an interruption in your dream, but God intends to finish what He has begun.

David told his son, Solomon, to be strong and courageous, and do it. Fear not, be not dismayed, for the Lord God…is with you. He will not fail or forsake you until you have finished all the work for the service of the house of the Lord (1 Chronicles 28:20 AMP).

Jesus’ life and ministry on earth was focused on finishing what God had called Him to do. Once, when the disciples wanted Jesus to eat, He said, “My nourishment comes from doing the will of God, who sent me, and from finishing his work” (John 4:34 NLT). And when He hung on the Cross He said, “It is finished!” (John 19:30 NKJV) Jesus did what He came to do.

The apostle Paul was a finisher. It had been prophesied that he would end up in chains in Jerusalem, but he didn’t let that stop him from finishing what God had called him to do (Acts 21:10-12). In Acts 20:24 NKJV we read that Paul said, “None of these things move me; nor do I count my life dear to myself, so that I may finish my race with joy.”

You might be thinking, Richard, you don’t know what I’m facing. No, I don’t, but I do know that God is a finisher. What He begins, He intends to finish, and that includes the good work He has begun in you!
