The Lord Loves Those He Can Trust

I told my husband Oral recently, “Honey, you know the Lord must love you a lot.” He said, “Well, I know He loves me, but why do you say that?”
I said, “Well, I have a feeling that the devil went to the Lord and said, ‘Look, if You’d let me do this to Oral Roberts, he’d quit preaching about salvation and healing, but You won’t let me get to him. You’ve got a wall around him and You protect him so I can’t hit him very hard.’ And the Lord said, ‘Well, go on down there and see what you can do.’”
“And so the devil came to give you his best shots, Oral,” I continued. “Our elder daughter died in a plane crash, and then divorce and another death struck our family. But you didn’t quit. I have a feeling the devil went back to the Lord and said, ‘Just let me close down ORU and he’ll quit.’ But this time, I believe the Lord looked at the devil and said, ‘No, satan. You know the reason I love Oral Roberts so much is because he obeys Me no matter what you do or what you put in his way. He obeyed Me in building ORU and you can’t have him or the university.’”
I concluded, “I have a feeling the Lord is saying today, ‘I can trust that man Oral Roberts and I love a person I can trust.”
That’s true for all of us. God loves all of us. But I believe God recognizes those whom He can trust to obey Him. The Bible tells us that our obedience is more acceptable to God than sacrifices (See I Samuel 15:22.) No matter the crises that hit us or the circumstances that seem to overwhelm us at times, we must obey God. And as we obey Him, God trusts us and loves us.
