The Lord Cares about You in the Storm

From the archives of Oral RobertsThird of three parts

A great storm arose on the sea as the disciples made their way with Jesus to the other side of the Sea of Galilee. The wind was so great and the waves so high that the little boat in which they were riding was in danger of capsizing. The disciples came to Jesus Who was asleep in the back part of the ship, and they awoke Him and said, “Master, carest thou not that we perish?” (Mark 4:38)

That’s the way we often feel when storms come against us, isn’t it? I know that’s the way I’ve felt at times when things go wrong, storms rage, the waters roll, and we can’t seem to find the way out and no matter what we do, things seem to get worse. We wonder in those times, “Where is God? Does God care?”

The Bible says that when the disciples came to Jesus and said, “Carest thou not that we perish?” that “he arose, and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water; and they ceased, and there was a calm” (Luke 8:24). Jesus cared.

Our God is not an unfeeling God. He cares about what is happening to you every second of every hour of every day of your life. He feels you. He is concerned about you. The Apostle Peter wrote that we can cast all our cares on the Lord because “he careth for you” (I Peter 5:7).

When the Lord calls you to do something, a storm may very well come against you. You may even feel as if that storm is going to destroy you, or destroy the work that the Lord has called you to do. Take courage! The Lord is not only in the boat with you, but He will care for you in the midst of that storm. Trust Him to rebuke the winds and calm the sea for you! Trust Him to keep you afloat and moving forward … all the way to the other side of the lake!
