The Eternally Important

Richard RobertsFirst of four parts

There’s a great cathedral in the city of Milan, Italy, which has three doors. The door on the left is decorated with roses and below the roses are these words: THAT WHICH PLEASES IS JUST FOR THE MOMENT.

The door on the right of the cathedral has thorns and thistles on it and beneath them, these words: THAT WHICH TROUBLES IS JUST FOR THE MOMENT.

The center door, however, bears a cross and underneath the cross are these words: ONLY THAT WHICH LASTS FOREVER IS IMPORTANT.

I hope these words will sink deep into your heart today. Only that which is eternal is truly important.

Jesus came so that you might have everlasting life. (See John 3:16.) He said, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand” (John 10:27–28).

The Apostle Paul advised Timothy to “lay hold of eternal life” (1 Timothy 6:12). Friend, nothing is more important than that!
