The Anointing

Richard RobertsSecond of two parts

I was once in a prayer meeting when a prophecy was given over me. The man said a new anointing, a new touch of the Holy Spirit, was coming into my life. He began to describe it in a very unusual, detailed description. He said, “The anointing that’s going to come on you is going to land on your shoulders. When it lands, it is going to be very heavy. It will be like someone put barbells on your shoulders, and you will slump under the weight of it. It will be just like when you were a little boy and you would try on one of your father’s heavy winter outer coats.”

Most of us have done that at some time in our lives when we were small. We put on a heavy winter coat of an adult. Then quickly, we bent down because it was so heavy. The prophecy was that the anointing would be too heavy for me to carry, at first.

I received that word and thanked the Lord for it. When God gives me a word of prophecy, I always say, “Lord, I receive it by faith. When Your time comes to bring this into my life, I am ready. I receive it!”

When the anointing of God’s Spirit suddenly lands on my shoulders, it feels like someone has walked up behind me, then quickly gone. A presence lands on my shoulders, and it’s as if my arms are numb and I am bending over. And suddenly, my hands get very hot.

I had heard Brother Kenneth Hagin say that many times in his life he felt a burning heat on his hands when he prayed for the sick. I’ve heard my father describe the power that he felt flowing through his hands by the anointing of the Holy Ghost in the same way. I believe this prophecy was the forerunner of our healing television program, The Place for Miracles, that as I would stretch out my hands, that same power, that same anointing, would flow through my hands. And friend, that anointing is still flowing from God, for you… and for all who will receive it.
