Stop Mixing It!

Lindsay Roberts

Isaiah 5:20 tells us, Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!

Isaiah 5:22˗23 continues, Woe unto them that are mighty to drink wine, and men of strength to mingle strong drink: which justify the wicked for reward.

The New International Version says, Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes and clever in their own sight. Woe to those who are heroes at drinking wine and champions at mixing drinks, who acquit the guilty for a bribe, but deny justice to the innocent (vv.21-23).

You will hear some say, “Oh, I am just a social drinker.” But even social drinking can lead to other problems. I don’t want to say drinking is the root of all evil, but it is evil when you talk about liver cancer or about driving under the influence. When someone says, “Well, I’m just a social drinker,” consider the ‘social’ car accidents that are the results of social drinking.”

I heard a person on television who said that they cover up their drinking so their children won’t see it. This person said they put alcohol in their coffee cup. Wait a minute. You brag about how much you drink, about how much you can hold, and brag about how it’s not evil, but Matthew 6:23 says, If thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness, if therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness! You can’t mix a little evil and a lot of good. The Bible says you can’t mix light and darkness and call it light; it’s called darkness.

Nobody can live a perfect life, but, in Jesus’ name, I want to say to Christians: Stop mixing it! Stop being what I call a lukewarm Christian. It is time to stop playing around and get to a place where we say, “I surrender… A-L-L!”
