Matthew 21:18˗21 is the story of Jesus speaking to a fig tree, cursing it, and telling it to wither and die. And, lo and behold, it did! Then the disciples came by the same tree and they said, “Jesus, how did You do that?”
He answered, “You can do the same thing. But you can do even more than this. You can speak to your mountain and command it to be cast into the sea, and it will obey you.”
Jesus was speaking of a mountain of problems. He was saying that if you can’t overcome the problem, if you can’t get around the problem, you can speak to your problem and tell it to move, and it will obey you. You’re not going to curse your husband. And you’re not going to speak to your mother or your mother-in-law or your children that way. But…you can speak to the problem. Ephesians 6:12 says we don’t wrestle with flesh and blood.
You may say to someone, “I’m so mad at you!” No, you’re not. You’re mad at the spirit that’s compelling them to act like that. Don’t speak to flesh and blood. You can speak to that flesh and blood all day long, but in the spirit realm, you speak to the nasty spirit that’s controlling that flesh and blood, and you command that spirit to stop in the Name of Jesus.
You treat that person with kindness and respect, because Jesus said, “What you have done to the least of these, you’ve done unto Me” (Matthew 25:40 paraphrased). You treat that person the way you would treat the Lord, Himself.
You see, you’re dealing with a spiritual battle. You’re not dealing with your husband or friend or boss or whomever, even if they act like the devil. You’re dealing with the spirit that’s compelling them to act that way. You should treat your husband as if he were the kindest man on earth, calling things that are not as though they were (Romans 4:17). Speak to the spirit that provokes the problem, and say, “In the Name of Jesus, devil, stop it! That’s enough!”
You can speak to your mountain. God says it has to obey you if you speak in the name of Jesus, according to the Word of God.
