Sowing and Reaping in Famine
When times get tough and the economy looks bad, it’s natural to want to hold on to everything we have. But the Bible shows us that when times get tough, holding on can be one of the worst things we might do.
The Lord brought this to my attention one day when I was reading Genesis 26 NKJV. It says there was a famine in the land where Isaac and his family lived. But verse 12 says, “Isaac sowed in that land, and reaped in the same year a hundredfold; and the Lord blessed him.” Isaac put his eyes on God, and in the midst of what the country was going through, in the middle of famine, he planted a seed. He used his faith. He sowed against his need and reaped a hundredfold harvest the same year! (See v.12-13.)
One of the greatest things I’ve learned is how to make my life a seed that I sow. You can’t buy miracles from God, but when you plant your seed unto the Lord, you put yourself in a position to receive even in tough times. I don’t believe our source is the economy. I believe our Source is God Almighty! And He promises in Philippians 4:19 “to supply all our needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus!”
