Seek Him

Richard Roberts

Many people today are seeking after “things”… fame, fortune, and personal pleasure. They find themselves working hard to achieve what they feel is important, but they never feel complete or at rest. Perhaps they are overlooking the most important thing―seeking after the Lord.

God is not hard to find if you seek Him. Deuteronomy 4:29 NIV says, If from there you seek the Lord your God, you will find him if you look for him with all your heart and with all your soul. Psalm 9:10 NIV says, Those who know your name will trust in you, for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you.

Are we to seek the Lord only when it’s convenient? I believe God is saying, “Seek Me with your whole heart, with your whole soul. Seek Me in every area of your life. Seek Me in the morning. Seek Me at noon, in the afternoon, and in the midnight hour.”

The psalmist shows us how to seek God:

O God, you are my God, earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you…Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you. I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my hands. My soul will be satisfied as with the richest of foods; with singing lips my mouth will praise you. On my bed I remember you; I think of you through the watches of the night…My soul clings to you; your right hands upholds me (Psalm 63:1,3–8 NIV).

The rewards for seeking God are innumerable. To name a few: He never forsakes you, He upholds you, and He gives you rest and peace of mind. What rewards!
