“Relationship”

Richard RobertsFirst of three parts

The thief (which is the devil) cometh not, but for to steal, and kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. —John 10:10

Everybody on earth wants to have a relationship with someone who loves them. To be loved is a basic need that each human being is born with, and that never leaves us as long as we are alive.

Jesus said that the devil comes to do three things in our relationships. First, he comes to steal them… to steal away our children or our spouses, and to plunge them into sin and cause them to run away. Second, he comes to kill…to kill love with hate, to kill respect with disrespect, to kill support with ridicule. And finally, he comes to destroy relationships…to utterly wipe them out through death, divorce, or estrangement.

The main thing the devil seeks to do, however, is to kill our relationship with God. He doesn’t want you to experience any of God’s love, or His concern, or His care, or His provision for you. He doesn’t want you to have a relationship in which you can “walk and talk” with God, just as Jesus did when He was on the earth. He certainly doesn’t want you to go to Heaven where you will have a relationship with God for all eternity!

But… Jesus said that He has come to give us life, including a living relationship with God, our Father, and a relationship with our brothers and sisters in Christ that will last for all eternity!

If you have not experienced a relationship with Jesus, I invite you to pray this prayer with me today:

“Father, I come to you today and ask you to have mercy on me, a sinner. I know I have done things that have broken my relationship with You. I ask You to forgive me and fill me with Your Holy Spirit so that I might have a relationship with You every day of my life on this earth and through all eternity. I pray this in the name of Jesus. Amen.”
