Prepared and Anointed

Richard Roberts

The book of Esther tells the story of the young woman who was chosen by the king of Persia to be his queen. When a man named Haman hatched a plot to destroy all the Jews in the land, Esther went before the king to plead for the lives of her people.

There are two very important things I want you to notice about Esther: She spent an entire year in preparation before she was selected to be queen, and she was chosen by God to accomplish His purpose.

For six months, Esther was bathed with oil of myrrh and then with special perfumes for another six months. The oil is symbolic of God’s anointing. Just as Esther was prepared and anointed to be the queen of Persia, I believe it’s important for you and me to be prepared and anointed by the Holy Spirit for the work God has called us to do. When we’re anointed and prepared like Esther was, we can change the course of our destiny!

As a result of Esther’s preparation, she was able to save the Jewish people from total destruction. There were many other beautiful women who were also prepared just as Esther was and who were possibly even more beautiful than Esther. But she was the one who was chosen by the king, as well as by the Lord, to save the Jews. Her cousin Mordecai said, “Who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this” (Esther 4:14 NKJV)?

God can prepare you and anoint you today just as He did Esther. You are not an accident. You’re here on this earth at this particular time on purpose. You’re chosen for the same reason Esther was chosen — to accomplish God’s will and bring hope and deliverance to those He brings into your life!
