When we turn our hearts and minds from our past, we stand in a position for God to begin to do something new in our lives. As long as we are living in the past, He can’t prepare us for the future!
Consider what the prophet Isaiah said: “Remember ye not the former things … Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it?” (Isaiah 43:18&19).
God is saying to you today that He is about to do something new in your life. Lamentation 3:22–23 declares that God’s mercies – which are His actions of love toward us – are “new every morning.” God isn’t going to rehash your past and give you something made out of yesterday’s leftovers. Put yesterday behind you. Face the morning with an expectation of God’s “new thing” in your life. Look for His new ideas to come to your mind…His new burst of strength to come into your body…His new insights into the Word of God as you read it… His new “word” directly to you as you pray in the Spirit and interpret back to your mind.
If you are just beginning your life in Christ, God’s “new thing” for you is a brand-new way for you to live … to act … to think … to believe. The Apostle Paul writes: “If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new” (2 Corinthians 5:17).
The time for God’s new thing in your life is NOW. God is always the God of the now. He stands ready at any instant to begin something new in your life. The minute you let go of the past, is the very minute that He starts preparing you for and leading you into a brand-new future.
God’s Word says we are to look for that new thing. “Shall you not know it?” asks the prophet. In other words, don’t miss it. You need to know what God has ahead for you … today!
