Learn to Pray

Richard RobertsFirst of two parts

It’s easy to be strong in the Lord on Sunday. It’s easy to smile on Sunday morning when the preacher is preaching and the choir is singing, when praise and worship is being led. You say hello to somebody you haven’t seen for seven days.

What about the days when you don’t hear the preacher preach, you don’t hear the choir sing, praise and worship is not being led, and nobody is praying for you? I am not just talking about the days of the week… I’m talking about your    w-e-a-k days.

Some people have weak days on workdays, and some people turn to alcohol and drugs because they don’t know how to handle their weak days. They run away and give up on life, and some even commit suicide. But I believe there is an answer to those w-e-a-k days.

If you truly want to make it through your weak days, learn how to start every day with prayer. Prayer is not hard. Prayer is talking to God, your heavenly Father. Prayer is communicating with your Creator. Prayer is touching base with the Boss. Prayer is the sincere desire of your heart. Learn how to talk with God. When you do, believe that He’ll talk back to you. God hears and answers your prayers. Thank Him for His goodness. Thank Him for His mercy.

Prayer can change attitudes. Prayer can rearrange situations. Prayer can move mountains. When you say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name, you’re in a spirit of reverence. When you say, Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven, you’re in a spirit of expectancy. When you say, Give us this day, our daily bread, you’re in a spirit of dependence upon God. When you say, Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, you’re in a humble spirit. When you say, Lead us not into temptation, you’re in a spirit of discipline. When you say, But deliver us from evil, you’re in a spirit of protection. When you say, For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, you’re in a spirit of exaltation and triumph. And when you say, Forever and ever. Amen, you’re in an eternal spirit.
