There are many spiritual lessons we can learn from nature. Take the eagle for example. The only way a baby eaglet can survive is to get out of the nest and fly and become a mature eagle. Now the eaglet isn’t too happy when its mama begins to remove the soft down feathers and let it down on the sharp briars to force it to fly. The eaglet gets upset just like we do when our nest is stirred. But the mother eagle knows if her eaglet stays in the nest, it will die.
When God begins to move us in a new direction, it’s uncomfortable because we don’t know where we’re going. In Genesis 12:1 NLT God said to Abraham, “Leave your country, your relatives, and your father’s house, and go to the land that I will show you.” God was sending Abraham to a place he had never been before.
It wasn’t easy for Abraham, and it isn’t easy for us when God says it’s time to move in a new direction. Our tendency is to blame people for the changes that affect us. But if God is stirring up our nest, He may be moving us into another sphere for a higher purpose.
God has stirred my nest many times over the years. Often I didn’t know which way to turn. Like Abraham, I had to trust God. And He is worthy of our trust. God had a purpose in moving Abraham. He had to get him to the place he needed to be for God’s promises to be fulfilled. God told Abraham, “I will bless you and make you famous, and I will make you a blessing to others” (Genesis 12:2 NLT). God never meant for you to stay in the nest, but to soar on wings like eagles (Isaiah 40:31 NIV)!
