‘I Will Praise the Lord’

Richard Roberts

Bleeding in the darkness, the cell was cold and black. Driven to unconsciousness by the stripes upon his back, he heard a voice calling out his name. His mind began to clear. In the darkness he replied, “Silas, I am here. O, my brother Silas.” Paul uttered with a groan, “Today I thought for sure we were going home and when I opened up my eyes, I’d look upon His face. Yet here we are together in this dreadful place.

“But I will praise the Lord. I will praise the Lord. No matter what tomorrow brings, or what it has in store, I know I will praise the Lord. I will praise the Lord. I will praise the Lord. No matter what tomorrow brings or what it has in store, I know I will praise the Lord.

“This may be a prison, and these may be chains, but still I am free. I am free to praise His name. And through tribulation my heart shall sing because He is the Messiah. He is the King of kings.”

“This may be a prison, these may be chains, but still I’m free. I am free to praise His name. And through tribulation my heart shall sing because He is the Messiah. He is the King of kings.”

Prisoners started waking up as the singing filled their ears. Some men started swearing, while others were in tears. Then suddenly it happened … there was no mistake. As Paul and Silas praised the Lord, the walls began to shake. I will praise the Lord. Yes, I will praise the Lord.

If ever there was song written for me, if ever a Scripture in the Bible was written for Richard Roberts, it’s this one. No matter what tomorrow brings, what it has in store, I know I will praise the Lord. No matter what the devil says, I’m going to praise the Lord. No matter what comes against me, by faith I’m going to praise Him.

And friend, no matter what it looks like, no matter what the devil has thrown at you―if it’s sickness, if it’s disease―you can stand like Paul and Silas in jail, in the midnight hour, and you can praise Him. Then believe that those walls, those walls of death and hell and the grave, are going to come falling down. Even in the midst of the ashes, when it looks like everything around you is dead, God is going to bring a victory.

Faith will bring you out of every struggle, every trial, every problem. No matter what tomorrow brings or what it has in store, praise the Lord!
