Helpers

I once heard a story about a 50-yard dash competition conducted at a Special Olympics meet. As the gun sounded to start the race, all of the young runners left their marks… except one. Finally, that boy’s feet began to move and he started the race, but about 20 yards down the track, he slipped and fell.

To the astonishment of the crowd that had gathered to watch, the boy who was leading the race and was about to win it suddenly stopped, and ran back to help the fallen runner. Then, all of the other contestants turned to help also. They pulled the boy up and all of them walked to the finish line, arm in arm. It was a tie race! Everybody won, because nobody felt he had to beat out the other runners.

We are called by God to be His Body on this earth ― a Body that, under His direction, is “fitted together perfectly, and each part in its own special way helps the other parts, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love” (Ephesians 4:16 TLB). We are called to help one another… those who are frightened about running the race of life… those who have fallen… and those who are weak.

Ask God, “What do You want me to do to help someone else today?” Listen for His answer. Make His Word to you the number one priority of your day.
