Get a Promise from God

Get a Promise from God

Richard RobertsFaith Series – Third of six parts

How can we begin to grow in faith and to develop our weak, little faith into strong, great faith?

First, get a promise from God to stand on. In Hebrews 11:17 &19 we read, “By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac, and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son …accounting that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead.”

Abraham received God’s promises into his life. He heard God speak and when he did, he said, “That’s for me! That really is going to happen to me.” He believed God.

Abraham didn’t know how God’s promise was going to happen. God’s promise to him was a son, and heirs as numerous as the stars in the sky. That promise came to Abraham after he and his wife, Sarah, were long past their normal childbearing years. Nevertheless, Abraham didn’t look at the circumstances of his life. He looked to the God of promise! Romans 4:18 says that Abraham was a man “who against hope believed in hope.”

That’s the position we need to take today. The Bible is filled with promises given to God’s people. As a born-again child of God today, you are among God’s people! All of God’s promises are available to you and intended for you! Your part is to accept them as your own, to believe them, and to claim them as true for your life. When you read the promises of the Bible, underline them. Put your initials next to them. Say aloud, “That’s for me!”

The first step to your growing in faith is to see that God has made promises to you, and for you to accept them and lay claim to them in your life.
