Expect a Miracle!

From the archives of Oral Roberts

Miracles were always happening in the Bible because people were expecting them to happen. They were looking for them to happen. They were believing God for them to happen. People expected God to stretch out His mighty hand and display His supernatural power in their lives. They opened their hearts to His miracle-working power, and miracles happened!

Acts 3:1–10 tells the story of the healing of the lame man at the Beautiful Gate. He was carried to the gate of the temple each day, where he begged for a living. One day, as the apostles Peter and John were approaching the temple, they stopped before him. Verse 5 says the beggar looked up “expecting to receive” something from them—most likely coins. But Peter and John told him, “We don’t have any money, but such as we have we give to you.”

With those words, the beggar’s expectancy changed. He no longer expected money. He expected what they could give him—the healing power of Jesus of Nazareth! They commanded him, “In the Name of Jesus Christ, rise up and walk!” And the man stood up and began walking and running into the temple, leaping and praising God! All because he expected to be healed!

To receive the miracle-working power of God, it’s important to be in a state of expectancy. Three things happen when you expect:

First, you recognize your miracle when it comes your way.

Second, you use your faith to reach out for your miracle.

And third, you receive your miracle into your heart.

Right now, expect a miracle to happen, and see what God can do.
