Several years ago, Lindsay and I and our children were staying in a hotel in southern California. We were scheduled to minister in a church there the next morning. In the dead of night, we woke up to find the room shaking all around us. We were right in the middle of a massive earthquake.
The babysitter who was traveling with us was knocked unconscious, and as Lindsay and I scrambled to assist her and protect our children, my life began to flash before my eyes. The devil whispered in my ear, “You’re going to die. Lindsay and your children are going to die. You’re all doing to die in this hotel!”
But suddenly the Holy Spirit spoke to my spirit, and I heard God’s still, small voice as clear as a bell: “You have been called to preach in forty nations. You are not going to die in an earthquake today.” When those words penetrated my heart and mind, peace began to flood my spirit, and I knew we were going to be okay. The Bible tells us, God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble. So we will not fear; even if earthquakes come (Psalm 46:1-2 NLT).
If your life is being shaken, steady yourself with the promises of God. Remember that He is your refuge and strength, no matter what is going on around you. The peace of God can flood your heart as you allow the Holy Spirit’s voice to drown out the voices of fear and confusion. Because He is with you, you can handle anything that comes your way.
