“Don’t Go There”

Lindsay Roberts

We have a saying in our house that Richard says to me all the time. When I get off track and I’m ready to come unglued, or if I get in fear over something and begin worrying about what might happen, Richard will tell me, “Don’t go there.”

Or there have been times when someone has been a real jerk and I want to tell Richard about it. Before I can get started, he will say, “Don’t go there.” “But I want to tell you the whole story,” I plead. He always responds, “Don’t go there. It won’t get you anywhere.” And you know, that’s a great piece of advice. Because complaining or worrying about a problem isn’t the solution.

When something bad happens to you and you begin to dwell on the problem that surrounds you, remember what Richard told me: “Don’t go there.” Instead of worrying, go to God and talk to Him.

The apostle Paul writes:

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

“Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy, meditate on these things” (Philippians 4:6-8 NKJV).

Now that is trusting God and not dwelling on the problem!
