Accept Jesus as Lord of Your Past

Richard and Lindsay Roberts

The Bible teaches us that Jesus Christ is “the same yesterday, today and forever” (Hebrews 13:8).

That means that Jesus has authority over the past! There’s nothing that you have ever been or done that is beyond the reach of His loving, everlasting arms.

The key issue, however, is that as long as you cling to the past and hold it tightly in your hand, Jesus can’t hold your past in His hand. He won’t wrench your past from you. If you want to be the Lord of your past, then He can’t be.

It’s up to us to turn over our past life to Jesus. The Apostle Paul said we must “die” to ourselves, in order for Jesus to raise us up into the newness of His likeness. (See Roman 6:6&11.)

You can turn your past over to Jesus today. Let’s pray together:

Heavenly Father, I come to You today and give You my past. I ask Jesus Christ to be the Lord over my past ― to heal my memories, to remedy the wrongs of my past, to turn my past into something that can be used for good in my future and the future of others. I choose to give up my claim to my past and turn it completely over to Jesus Christ. I pray this in His mighty and incomparable Name. Amen.

As you pray that prayer from the depths of your heart, I believe that God will hear you and do that which you ask!
