His Doing

Richard Roberts

I once heard a story about a little boy named Billy. Billy was mischievous ― “all boy” ― in his ability to get into trouble without trying. One day his mother was exhausted with all of his antics and she left him playing in the den of their home while she went upstairs to take a rest.

Just moments before she fell asleep, she heard a terrible noise ― the sound of a large truck roaring toward their house, and seconds later, the sickening crash of that truck crashing into their home. The entire house shook with the impact and the mother ran downstairs to find the front of that truck filling their den. The driver had apparently fainted and as he collapsed across the steering wheel, he had pushed the accelerator all the way to the floor causing the truck to jump the curb, rip across the yard, and plow right into the house.

The mother was frantic as she screamed, “Billy! Billy!” And then she heard a voice from the next room, “I didn’t do it, Mother. I didn’t do it! Honest, I didn’t!”

So often we think that we are the ones who must make miracles happen, when in fact, God and God alone is the Source of all the miracles we need. First Thessalonians 5:24 reminds us, “Faithful is he [the Lord] that calleth you, who also will do it.”
