Recently, I was reading a message that my long-time friend, Jerry Savelle, preached. As I read this sermon, it seemed to me that there is a tremendous connection between God’s blessing and the favor of God. I found myself making notes from his sermon and from Proverbs 3 that I believe you will find a blessing… Jerry said, “There are far too many Christians who have a problem with Christians really, truly being blessed and becoming rich and wealthy.” As I re-read what I had just written down, it began to resonate within my spirit. In other words, I found myself agreeing with his point.
Think about it… Believers having a problem with Believers who ACT on their faith… SOW in faith… and LIVE in faith… who PROSPER financially… who have their NEEDS met… who WALK in FAVOR with God and man… who enjoy the FULLNESS of their relationship with the God of More than Enough!
There are Believers who look at people in the Bible and say, “WOW, isn’t it wonderful that these men and women in the Bible had all their needs met, tremendous blessings while accumulating abundant wealth?” And yet they believe there is something wrong for us (you and me) to have the same lifestyle.
WHY do some Believers have such a struggle with the blessings of God?
Why do some Believers look at men like Abraham, who in his day was the richest man in his part of the world, want to be like Abraham, and yet they don’t want themselves, or any other Believers for that matter, to have what Abraham had? In his message, Brother Jerry said, “It just doesn’t make any sense to me!” And the more I think about it while digging into the Word, I want you to know that kind of thinking doesn’t make any sense to me, either.
When God approached a man named Abram, whose name was later changed to Abraham, it is recorded in Genesis 12:2 that God said, “I will bless you with an abundant increase of favors.” I hope you are letting this take root in your spirit… Please read these words again, “I will bless you with an abundant increase of favors.” This wasn’t just anyone speaking these words to Abram. This is GOD, the Creator of the universe, the Creator of man Himself speaking to His servant, Abram.
Now, focus your thoughts on what is actually taking place right now… When you receive this Word from your Heavenly Father, you begin to see something very exciting happening within your thought processes… “I will bless you, and you cannot separate the blessing of God from the favor of God.” As you study the Word, you’ll see you don’t get one without the other.
Remember that old song we used to sing back in the 1960s, “Love and marriage, love and marriage, go together like a horse and carriage?” And it didn’t end there. There is also a line in that same song which sums it all up, “This I tell ya, brother, you can’t have one without the other.” I pray you will drive out any doubt you might have about God’s blessing process. “You can’t have the blessing of God without having the favor of God on your life.”
The Word is very clear: “I will bless you with an abundant increase of favors.” That’s what God said to Abraham. And you, as a blood-bought child of the Most High God, have the privilege of walking in the blessings of Abraham. With just a little research, I came to the biblical definition of the words, the blessing of God. “The blessing of God is the empowerment to prosper, to succeed, to multiply, to increase, to excel, and to rise above what attempts to hold you back and keep you down.” Another definition is found in 3 John 2, where the Bible says, “Beloved, I wish above all things that you prosper and be in health, even as your soul prospers.”
Again, I must ask, “Why would a Believer be against prosperity when God’s Word commands us to prosper?” A man once asked me, “Richard, are you a part of that prosperity camp?” I immediately responded, “I’m certainly not a part of that poverty camp.” And I wasn’t just playing with words. Think about it… Why would anyone try and link being more holy with being poor? When you hear anyone making statements like this, you are getting a better picture of their own lack of personal accountability than their understanding of the Word. You are learning more about their own personal lack of faithful stewardship than you are about their commitment to God’s principle, “You are blessed to be a blessing.”
In the 13th chapter of Genesis, the Bible says Abraham was very rich in cattle, silver and gold. Immediately after God said, “I will bless you with an abundant increase of favor,” one chapter later, we see Abraham is a very, very rich man. His wealth is evidence that the blessing of God and the favor of God were upon him. Because Abraham chose to walk in the favor of God, the material blessing followed.
Now, let’s get down to where the rubber meets the road today… In Acts 10:34, you will find these words, “Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons.” I can assure you those words from the mouth of Peter were recorded in Acts 10:34 for a specific reason. It was important that early Christians understood that God does not play favorites… When God spoke to Abraham, His words were no more important to Abraham in his day than they are to us (you and me) TODAY!And because that is a truth, the only difference in the outcome between what happened to Abraham and our current position has more to do with us than God.
Think about what you just read… If Abraham could have the blessing of God’s favor on his life, then you and I can experience God’s blessing and favor in our lives.
The Believer who has a problem with other Believers, even themselves, living in the prosperity of God’s divine favor is usually basing their belief system on their current circumstances, their previous experiences, their culture, maybe bad examples from their parents, incomplete teaching, even from another Believer who has allowed the fear of failure.
Satan will use every tool in his arsenal to try and keep a Believer from experiencing the prosperity and favor of God. Satan knows that when a Believer is missing out on the blessing God has for them, they are also missing out on their opportunities to be a blessing to others.
Please read the following very carefully… The blessing is the empowerment to prosper, and the favor produces the opportunity to prosper. You can have the ability to do something, but if you never have the opportunity, it’s not likely the ability is going to bless you. Think about it this way… Let’s say you can hit a home run every time you come to bat, or you can throw a baseball a hundred miles an hour and strike out every batter who enters the batter’s box… That’s a blessing! However, if you are never on a baseball team to stand on a pitcher’s mound and throw a ball a hundred miles an hour, or if you never take a bat in your hand to hit a home run, then the ability (blessing) doesn’t do you much good.
God’s FAVOR opens the doors for the impact of His blessing upon your life… The blessing of God provides a way for the favor of God to open up in your life, giving the opportunity for the favor of God to take what you have—the ability to do—and bring it into reality. In other words, FAVOR produces opportunity for you to experience the fullness of God’s blessing.
I challenge you to decree this in your life right now… “The blessing of God empowers me to prosper, and the favor of God provides me the opportunity to make it happen.” Now, if you’re really serious about being blessed so you can be a greater blessing, read it out loud this time: “The blessing of God empowers me to prosper, and the favor of God provides me the opportunity to make it happen.” Don’t allow anything or anyone to steal this truth from you. In fact, because this decree is so important, I challenge you to say this out loud every morning for the next 30 days… Make it a part of your everyday thinking. Write it on a card and place it where you will see it more than once a day. You are in for some GREAT DAYS with the Lord.
Notice the words of Genesis 12:2, “I will bless you with an abundant increase of favors.” The word favors is plural. Favors means more than one favor. Think about it. If you were given only one opportunity and you missed it, God is saying, “I’m going to open the door for you to have opportunities to prosper and to succeed for the rest of your life.”
Partner, it’s time to praise the Lord… The God of More than Enough is there for you, even when you miss an open door. The Word says God will provide MORE DOORS of opportunity to you.
Please read these four lines very carefully… God doesn’t do this for you just because you decree it, even through the decree is important to His victory plan for your life. God does this for you when you honor Him with your life. Now this is where God’s plan becomes abundant. When you put God first in your life, God takes notice and is moved by your commitment.
I used to sing a song on our television program. “Put Jesus first in your life. Let Him handle the problems that stand in your way.” When you honor God by putting Him first place in your life, God can put what I call a “Commanded Blessing” in your life. Think of it as a magnet. In other words, the Commanded Blessing attracts opportunities for you to exercise your faith and experience the blessing of connections with the right people in the right circumstances… It attracts new ideas and innovative ways to do things… You find yourself stepping into opportunities where the blessing God has placed in your life begins to become a reality… You prosper because you are at the right place at the right time. You have more and more divine appointments because you choose to HONOR GOD by putting Him FIRST in your life.
Here are FIVE “key” words from the 3rd chapter of Proverbs that will change your life if you choose to allow them to: The first word is “OBEDIENCE.” You will find it in the first verse of Proverbs 3, “Do not forget my teachings but keep my commandments in your heart.” In order to do that, you must be obedient. This is not “slavery” obedience; this is “love” obedience as a result of a meaningful relationship. Obedience, as recorded in verse 2, will prolong your life many years and bring you prosperity. That’s how important obedience is.
The second word is “INTEGRITY.” Verse 3 reads, “Let love and faithfulness never leave you. Bind them around your neck. Write them on the tablet of your heart.” God is talking about your integrity… your relationships because they are more important than anything else in your life. The relationship you have with God and other people is “key” to your very existence. When you and I act in love and faithfulness, we are building integrity and we positively impact our relationships. The result… We win “favor” with both God and man.
The third word is “TRUST.” Verse five tells us, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and don’t lean on your own understanding.” In other words, we can stop trying to figure everything out for ourselves… We must guard against getting so analytical that we miss the real blessing God has for us. God wants us to lean on Him in everything we do instead of leaning (depending) on our own understanding. We must allow God, through His Word and the leading of the Holy Spirit, to convict us (point out) any sin in our lives. And as we turn away from evil, and turn toward God, then verse eight comes into effect: “This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones.”
The fourth word is “DISCERNMENT.” Verse seven of Proverbs 3 says, “Do not be wise in your own ways. Fear (honor) the Lord and shun evil.” As Believers, most of us know the difference between right and wrong because the Word and the Holy Spirit are faithful to convict (instruct) us of things like that. God has placed discernment in each of us to help us separate right from wrong as we move through life. Think of discernment as that inward voice that speaks to you, saying, “Stay away from that… Move toward that. My blessing is upon it.”
The fifth word is “GIVING.” Verse nine of Proverbs 3 reads, “Honor the Lord with your wealth and with your first fruits of all your crops.” Crops simply means what you produce—your time, your talent, your love, all the things that you produce in your life. When you give God the first fruits, you are giving God your best… Not your worst… Not that which no one wants. In other words, we are to give God the best of the best… We are to give off the top. We are not to slight God by giving Him anything less than our best. Because when we give a gift that has no worth to us, then it won’t mean anything to Him either. Remember, it boils down to who you choose to honor. When you honor God with your best, He can take that gift and use it to His glory. And in doing so, He multiplies it back to you with amazing results… As a result, the remaining portion of that scripture comes to pass: “Your barns will be filled to overflowing and your vats will brim over with new wine” (Proverbs 3:10).
Here is a POWER KEY to your experiencing the fullness of God at work in and through your life… When you have a generous heart to give, you demonstrate your understanding of what it means to honor God by giving of your best.
Whether you are honoring God by sponsoring the Greater Works Vision… through the tablets that are being distributed to Pastors and lay leaders in Ghana, West Africa… or giving to support the translation of more than 18,000 pages of books, sermons, and the teaching of the Word… When you give of your best, you are positioning yourself to experience the “Commanded Blessing” of God upon your life.
Now, let’s go back and make this decree again: “The blessing of God empowers me to prosper, and the favor of God provides me the opportunity to make it happen.” It is God’s plan for you to “prosper and be in health, even as your soul prospers.” It is also God’s plan for you to live and act in OBEDIENCE to His Word… Honor Him… Live and walk in INTEGRITY as you TRUST Him in all things, always walking in DISCERNMENT by the Holy Spirit as you GIVE of your best in support of His work upon this earth.
For far too many people, these are just good words with good meanings. However, to the discerning Believers who are secure in their position in Christ, these are words, when linked together, that release the blessing and favor of God to work in and through their lives.
Partner, I believe God has so much for you as you act on what you have just read. And as you read this letter again, I pray you will let the truths in it take root in both your spirit and your thinking. I challenge you to begin today… Please don’t allow another day to pass without acting on the promises I have shared with you. I believe God’s favor can open doors for you to fully experience God’s blessing upon your life.
I feel so strongly about this… I’m calling for God’s blessing… I’m calling for the opportunity—the favor of God—to come into your life in new and refreshing ways as you continue to honor Him through your obedience to His Word, your integrity, your trust, your discernment and your personal giving as you stand with this ministry and the mission to which God has called us to through your prayers and financial support. I am believing that just like Abraham, God’s blessing and God’s favors, ABUNDANT FAVORS, will be made manifest in your life.
As you complete and return the enclosed Prayer and Praise Sheet, I challenge you to get specific with God… Use the space provided to let me know the areas in which I can stand with you according to the words of Matthew 18:19 for a miracle to be released into your situation right now… Regardless of what you are facing, face it with God!I challenge you to stop long enough to allow the Holy Spirit to minister the truth of God to your spirit. And then I pray you will ACT on it!
I realize this is a lengthy letter. However, I also know what I have written to you is vital for all of us in the days ahead. The enemy is doing everything within his power to bring confusion to the Body of Christ. Politically, there are forces at work in our world who would love nothing more than to see the Body of Christ restricted to the four walls of the church and for you and me, children of the Most High God, to have no voice in the way we are treated.
What you have read in this letter is 180 degrees from what the devil and his crowd want to see happen to Believers who are prospering and walking in God’s favors.
When you sow into this ministry, you are strengthening the message of truth God has placed in us. You are helping us to use every means possible to reach the lost with the message of God’s forgiving love… You are helping us lift up the healing Jesus to those around us who are sick and hurting… You are helping us to reach into hundreds of thousands of homes through our television program, The Place for Miracles… You are helping put us on platforms so we can strengthen Believers through the truth of the Word… In other words, your financial support places you right in the middle of the Greater Works Vision that God has challenged us to accomplish through this ministry.
Now, as you complete and return the enclosed Prayer and Praise Sheet, I’m asking you to consider sowing a SEED of importance to you. I’m asking you to ACT on what you have read in this letter and position yourself to be a participant in what I call God’s “Commanded Blessing” in your life.
Thank you for reading this letter and for allowing the Holy Spirit to fill in any points I did not address because of limited space.
I believe you are so important to what God is doing in and through our ministry together. Please know that I never take you, your prayers, nor your financial support of what God has called us to do for granted.
I look forward to receiving your Prayer and Praise Sheet… I look forward to standing in agreement with you for the blessing of Abraham to be upon you as you honor God through your obedience to His Word, your integrity, your trust, your discernment and your personal giving as you stand with this ministry—and the mission to which God has called us—through your prayers and financial support. I am believing that just like Abraham, God’s blessing and God’s favors — ABUNDANT FAVORS — will be made manifest in your life. For truly, we are
Blessed to Be a Blessing!
