Are you asking BIG enough? Think about it…
If God spoke to you and said, “Ask Me for whatever you want Me to give you,” what would your request be? If you knew God’s answer would be YES, what would you ask of Him?
Recently, the Lord spoke to me and said, “Richard, you are not asking big enough of Me.” Wow! God had never said that to me before. I prayed about it for a while and thought, did I really hear that from the Lord? And yet, I knew I had heard from God.
Tears came into my eyes as I pondered the word that God had spoken to me. And as I thought more about what I would say back to God, I was reminded of the story of Solomon, in 1 Kings, chapter 3. The Bible says that God came to Solomon in a dream and said to him, “Ask Me for whatever you wish, and I will give it to you.”
Solomon could have asked for riches or maybe a dozen other things. But instead, he asked God for wisdom. Solomon asked God to give him the ability to do what God wanted him to do…and that was to be fair and just, with an understanding heart to be able to govern Israel… to be able to do what he was called to do. His number one priority was to walk in God’s ways and do what the Lord wanted him to do (Luke 12:34).
Partner, why did Solomon make such a choice? Well, here are three things which I believe influenced Solomon’s request.
First, I believe it was his father, David’s, good influence on his life. When King David named Solomon as the successor to his throne, he gave Solomon a solemn charge to obey and follow God’s laws (1 Kings 2:1-12).
Second, Solomon was committed to God’s will for his life. He walked according to the statutes of his father, David (1 Kings 3:3). He knew God’s Word…He had studied it and had it down in his heart.
And third, Solomon had a vision for the future. He intended to build upon the greatness of the kingdom of Israel which his father had established during his reign as king. David had wanted to build a temple unto God but could not because of the wars and enemies he fought on all sides. Solomon accomplished having the temple built during his reign as King of Israel (1 Kings, chapters 5 and 6).
As I re-read the story of Solomon, I remembered the solemn charge that my father, Oral Roberts, had given to me… “Stay little in your own eyes, Son, and obey God. Stay on track with the Bible… Focus your ministry on healing, the Holy Spirit and seed-faith. Dream BIG. Bring the Gospel and God’s healing power to people in need, and command the devil to get out of your way.”
As I thought again about my dad’s words, right then, I made a decision. And before I knew it, I said, “Lord, I’m asking you for $100 million for the Gospel of Jesus… to spread His saving, healing, delivering message of faith around the world.” Those words came out of my mouth so quickly that I began to weep as I repeated them over and over.
You see, I also have a solemn charge from God and from my earthly father to do just that. I’m called of God to carry on the work my father began for the Lord during his time on earth. Through relationship and prayer with my Father God and study of His Word, I know that I know His calling on me and this healing ministry.
Since the day the Lord told me I was not asking big enough, I’ve thought more about “asking big” of God and looked up the definition of the word big. Many think “big” just means “large,” but the definition of the word “big” is: of considerable size, intensity, quantity, extent or magnitude; of great significance, momentous. Think about it…
There’s a story told about Napoleon Bonaparte and a brash young man who asked him to give him the island Napoleon’s army had just fought to secure. Napoleon granted the request and signed over the island to this young man. When asked why he would do this, he replied, “The magnitude of his request has honored me.”
I believe we are honoring God and His Word when we use our faith and ask BIG of Him, according to His Word and will. After all, nothing is too hard for God! The Bible says in James 4:2 that we have not, because we ask not. So… what would you ask of God if you knew His answer would be yes?
I’m not just referring to your needs, but also your wants and desires. Would you ask for more money or for your precious loved one to get saved? Would you ask for a better job or to be healed in some area of your life, or for someone else to be healed? Think about it for a moment…What would you ask of God if you knew He would give it to you?
When those words “100 million dollars” came out of my mouth, I could immediately see what could be accomplished for the sake of the Gospel…the faces of the pastors in underdeveloped nations of the world that I’ve taught recently in West Africa, the Northern Canadian Arctic, and India.
Just last month after our India outreach, we were told that the more than 700 pastors attending my teaching conference in India will be reaching 50,000 people through their churches each week. Now, that’s a multiplication effect worth shouting about! Praise God!
That’s why I’m working so hard to get the many sermons and books on my Greater Works tablets translated into more languages and into the hands of more pastors around the world. When we get these teaching resources into the hands of these precious pastors and leaders, they can be more effective in reaching the people in their own villages, towns and communities… bringing salvation, healing and hope to people in areas where it may be hard to get the Gospel into.
What we’ve done so far is great, and I am so thankful for the financial support of partners like you! But, I know I have only scratched the surface of all that God wants me to do for Him.
You and I, partnering together, can make a huge impact for the kingdom of God. And that’s what it’s really all about. So…I am asking BIG of God. No, not for myself… but for His kingdom and His glory.
Partner, now ask yourself… Are you asking big enough?
In fact, I believe God is asking you right now, “What do you want Me to do for YOU?” That’s the question Jesus asked blind Bartimaeus (Mark 10.)
Now, Bartimaeus must have heard about Jesus, this miracle worker whom he believed could heal him. And when he was told that Jesus was passing by, he began shouting, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” Many rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more.
Jesus heard him and asked, “What do you want Me to do for you?” Bartimaeus replied, “Teacher, I want to see.” “Go,” said Jesus, “your faith has healed you.” And immediately Bartimaeus received his sight.
When Jesus asked the question of Bartimaeus, he could have said something like… “Can you make a tree grow above my head to give me shade from the heat while I sit here begging for money?” Or, he could have said, “Jesus, please punish these people who have not put money in my cup as they passed me by.” But he didn’t. He said, “Lord, that I might see.” He asked BIG of God, and Jesus restored his eyesight. Friend, that’s BIG!
Now listen to this…It’s time for YOU to ask BIG of God also. It’s time to dream BIG. It’s time to pray and think about what exactly you want and need from God in your own life. It’s time to fully obey God and do all He has laid on your heart.
Partner, on the Prayer Sheet I’ve enclosed with this letter, I’ve put a special place for you to write down what BIG thing you’re asking of God.
In Habakkuk, chapter 2, the Lord said to “Write the vision, and make it plain…For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it, because it will surely come, it will not tarry.” We’re told to write down our God-given dreams and visions for the future…to make them plain and to set goals for their fulfillment. Search your heart and make sure it’s something BIG and not something small. If it’s significant to you, it will be significant to God.
Partner, remember… God has not forgotten you. He knows who you are, He knows where you live, and He’s not too busy to hear your prayers.
Now, when you write it down on your Prayer Sheet, and ask BIG of God, start believing for Him to do it. Begin confessing it by your faith. Start calling it in, according to Mark 11:24 which says, What things soever you desire, when you pray (ask BIG), believe that you receive them and you shall have them.
Expect God to answer and to grant your request that is in line with His Word, as Solomon did. And because he asked big of God, according to God’s will, he also was blessed with riches, and favor, and fame that no man since has ever matched (1 Kings 3:10-15 &1 John 5:14-15).
I have asked BIG of God, and I’m sticking to what I’ve asked Him. Now, it’s your turn to ask BIG.
Please pray. Then write down what BIG thing you want God to do in your life or in the life of your loved ones. Rush it to me as quickly as you can. Release your faith and believe God for Him to answer.
I encourage you to do as I am doing and attach some seed (offering) to your request. The Bible says Solomon sacrificed often to the Lord. He gave offerings unto God, and God poured out His blessings upon him.
My friend, I believe as you sow into this ministry, He will bless you and multiply it back in ways you need it most.
Now, as I close this letter, here is a faith declaration for you to say out loud, every day:
I declare that as I ask BIG of God, He is renewing and restoring me by the power of the Holy Spirit to become the “best me” possible. The Lord is working to transform me into the image of Christ, as I renew my mind according to Romans 12:2. I am able to hear the voice of God, to trust His Word, and to live in obedience to His will. My past is forgiven and my future is secure. My best days are just ahead. Today, in the power of the Holy Spirit, I am asking BIG of God in order to do all the good works He created me to do. All this, I decree and declare for God’s kingdom and His glory!
Make this faith declaration every day. Believe it. Call it in by your faith, in Jesus’ name.
Be sure and answer this letter just as quickly as you can. I’m so very thankful for our partnership and for all of your faithful and generous giving unto the Lord through this healing ministry.
I’m looking forward to hearing from you soon, in Jesus’ name, and joining my faith with you for your BIG miracle!
Your partner for a Better Life in Christ,
P.S. Now is YOUR time to ask BIG of God. I’m looking forward to hearing about your BIG request, setting my faith with yours and expecting God to answer every request that is line with His Word and His will, according to 1 John 5:14-15.
Also, don’t forget to make your declaration every day. Believe it and call it in by faith, in Jesus’ name. I’ve made the declaration copy on the prayer sheet so that you can cut it off and keep it with you when you return the prayer sheet, along with your best gift this month.
