TITLE: Staff Writer

POSITION SUMMARY: Staff writer is responsible for creatively and effectively communicating the vision and message of the Oral Roberts Ministries, including magazine articles, fundraising letters, emails, social media posts, web copy and more. The successful writer works in a team environment with the creative director, graphic designer, TV/video producers and other members of the staff .
- Write, edit and proofread documents for communication of ministry’s vision and outreach for a variety of media, including print and web.
- Produce written assignments in a timely fashion, meeting all deadlines.
- Ensure that all written communications are consistent with the message and voice of the ministry.
- Review, edit and check facts and scripture references.
- Research copyright, trademark, scripture usage and other grammatical issues as needed.
- Assist and perform other projects, as requested.
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION AND SPECIALIZED TRAINING: High school diploma and Bachelor’s degree, specialized training or significant work experience in related field.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Requires minimum five years related work experience . (1-2 years experience writing for a ministry preferred.) Understanding of writing for a ministry, including ghostwriting, fundraising, donor communications, and promotional copy. Familiarity with Chicago Manual of Style, AP Style, grammar and punctuation needed for editing and proofreading.
JOB SPECIFIC SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE: Requires very strong editing skills including grammar, spelling, punctuation, formatting, and general creative writing talent and capability. Also requires a willingness to learn and apply ministry principles, personalities and historical patterns of communication to ministry partners. Understanding of marketing, advertising, web, and social media helpful. Basic knowledge of copyright and trademark laws. Strong background in Christian theology and the Bible. Ability to review and proof documents for style and grammar. Ability to adapt and prioritize tasks to meet quick deadlines. Computer proficiency required, as well as proficiency in Microsoft Word.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Will include but not be limited to: sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs, bending, kneeling, reaching, repetitive motion, using equipment requiring manual dexterity, and lifting up to 25 lbs on occasion. Durations of computer work (ie: sitting and the use of keyboard) for prolonged periods is to be expected. Must have good near-sight, far-sight, and non-color-blind visual ability as well as the ability to bring objects into sharp focus. Must hear clearly and distinctly and be able to read and write.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Must be able to perform the required job functions indoors, in a temperature-controlled environment either independently or within groups of people, in an organized and efficient manner, as required, under minimal general supervision, whether fast-faced or steady in workflow.
MENTAL AND EMOTIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Must have creative-minded flow of ideas and conceptions with the ability to implement creative ideas into required tasks. Must possess logical mental clarity and ability to reason for the purpose of various detailed tasks. Must be capable of working harmoniously within a diverse group of individuals, whether co-workers or partners or other individuals. Must be able to understand, read and carry out verbal or written instruction. Must possess calm capabilities to multi-task and maintain deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Must be able to perform functions cooperatively, whether directed independently or as a team.
HOURS OF WORK AND ATTENDANCE: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM. Hours may vary depending on workload required and occasional overtime hours are possible.
