Soaking in the Spirit

Richard Roberts

If you want to be an overcomer, it’s important to spend time waiting on the Lord and soaking in the Spirit. How do you do this? The psalmist tells us how. He said, “I wait for the Lord, my soul doth wait, and in his word do I hope. My soul waiteth for the Lord more than they that watch for the morning” (Psalm 130:5–6). Those verses are talking about waiting in God’s presence…soaking in the Spirit…until you feel a new vitality in your soul!

It’s easy to become hardened and unyielding in our walk with the Lord if we don’t seek Him and read His Word. A fresh soaking of God’s Spirit softens our hearts and changes our lives.

When I was a boy, I convinced my mother to buy a particular bubble bath because the container became a toy when it was empty. The advertisement for it said: “Soaky soaks you clean in oceans full of fun. Scrubbly, bubbly, flippity, floppity…clean before you’re done. Soaky soaks you clean, and every girl and boy gets a toy when it’s empty. When it’s empty, it’s a toy.”

I was content to soak in the bathtub for hours. I would take that little toy and splash some of the soap in the water and soak until every bubble had vanished and I was one shriveled, wrinkled little boy!

Today I want Holy Ghost wrinkles in my life, don’t you? I want to soak in God’s presence until I become totally saturated in the anointing of God’s Spirit! Isaiah 40:31 says, “They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” This is how you gain the strength to fight life’s battles and win!
