Chosen by God

Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain. — John 15:16

The first step toward becoming a Christian is to be chosen by the Lord. I used to think that the reason some people were not Christians was that God had not chosen them. Now that I understand the Scriptures better, I really believe that God chose all of us — but there is something for us to do.

When God moves, then we move; or we move, and then He moves. Sometimes we take the first step, and then He takes the second step. In this case, He took the first step, for the Bible says, Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you. The second step is for us to commit ourselves to that calling.

Each of us has a calling in our heart. Yours is different from mine, and mine is different from yours. You are not supposed to be like anybody else. You are supposed to be like God wants you to be.

You may say, “My calling is just so small. I never will have a pulpit calling.” I believe there are many things as great as a pulpit ministry. One-on-one talking to people over a cup of coffee is very important. Sometimes you can get to people more effectively that way than someone standing in a pulpit. The very calling that you consider to be small may be the greatest of all in God’s sight.
