A Relationship with God

From the archives of Oral Roberts

Our lives are wrapped up in our relationship with God. In Deuteronomy 28 He says, in essence, “If you will obey My commands and put Me first in your life, blessings will come upon you!” On the other hand, He says, “If you disobey My Word and go your own way, you’re going to walk away from the Source for your life” (see vv. 1, 15).

The source of the Mississippi River is Lake Itasca in Minnesota. If you were to cut off its source, the river would stop. In the same way, if we cut off our relationship with God, we cut ourselves off from our Source. Then His blessings stop.

Some people say God is cruel. No, God isn’t cruel. It’s cruel when we decide to walk away from the very Source of the blessings of life. God is a good God and a God of blessing. Moses said, “If you will hear the voice of God and do what He commands, He will bless you in all you do. But if you turn away from God, refuse to hate your sin and choose to hold on to it, then the curses are still there.” Christ has redeemed us from those curses…but only if we reject them by repenting and by confessing our faith that Christ died for us.

It’s the same way with disease. 1 Peter 2:24 says that we were healed by the stripes Jesus suffered on the Cross. God doesn’t have to do anything to heal us; He has already done it! Everything we need has already been provided. Christ isn’t going to the Cross again. It’s done! It’s finished! By our faith we can reach out and say, “Yes, Lord, I will serve You. I will follow Your will. You are the Source of my total supply.” Then, by faith, we allow His forgiveness for our sins and His healing power into our lives!
